Interview :

Ato Gebeyaw -Task Force Europe on Tensae Radio

Interview Tensae Radio with Ato Gebeyaw, member of the Joint Civic and Political Task Force of Ethiopians in Europe, regarding EU-ACP Joint Parliamentary Assembly in Vienna.

Rally at ACP-EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly 21-06-06

At the start of the rally Hon. Ms. Glenys Kinnock, Chairwoman of Delegation to the ACP-EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly and Hon. Ms.Luisa Morgantini Chairwoman of Committee on Development approached the demonstrators.

Some came all the way from Munich. Ms. Glenys Kinnock explained the position of the EU-Parliament and what they plan to do in the near future

Pamphlets where given to the arriving MPs accompanied with slogans of the demonstrators demands. Time and place could not have been better chosen, pamphlets were running out and additional had to be copied. The Press Release of Taskforce Europe had already been distributed inside the conference building a day before.

The mood abruptly changed and emotions boiled over as the notorious  “Speaker of the Ethiopian Parliament”  Teshome Toga and two of his adjutants arrived and had to pass demonstrators to get into the building.

Short time later a second bulk of “MPs” from Ethiopia arrived and were accompanied by "Leba, Leba"  shouts resounding through the entrance hall.

After a while, as emotions had already cooled down, Hon. Ms. Anna Gomes came cheered by the demonstrators and had a little chat.

The conference organisers handed over a copy of a paper with the title "Update on the current situation in Ethiopia” which was given to them by the “Ethiopian delegation”. They gave the activist the chance  to  comment on the paper within a hour.

After the rally ended, some of the demonstrators where able to attend the side meeting on the human rights situation in Ethiopia, brilliantly presented by Hon. Anna Gomes, Dr. Dadimos and Ato Gebeyaw.

Press Release:Ethiopia: Thirteen Months of Repression – Never Say You Never New!!

Letter To Commissioner Mr. Louis Michel 04.02.06

Dear Mr. Louis,

Ethiopian people are engaged in a fundamental and a peaceful struggle for freedom and their right to be governed by the representatives they have democratically elected. In response the Meles Zenawi Regime have massacred unarmed civilians and committed untold atrocities against its own people. Elected public officials, scholars, journalists, opposition party members and supporters are being jailed and tortured. The whereabouts of thousands of people detained remained unknown.

We, ethiopians living in Austria, ask you kindly to reject any proposal from the tyrant Meles Zenawi who has held the nation of 70 Million people hostage and, of course, would like to express our appreciation in regard to the EU decision of withholding the
$ 375  Million that would have gone directly into the coffer of the government.

Best Regads,

Ethiopian Airlines canceled charter flights

Ethiopian Airlines in cooperation with INTERTRAVEL travel agency had scheduled, for the first time, charter flights in February and March from Vienna, Salzburg and Graz (all in Austria). It has, however, been known that flights are cancelled
due to the political situation in Ethiopia.
